Comparison of Noise Effects to State Anxiety Levels of Patients and Nurses

Öz

Noise is an important problem for nurses and patients in hospitals. To exposure noise to may cause negative effects on psychology and performance. The study was designed to determine decibel levels on the hospital’s four unified clinics and compare noise effects to state anxiety levels of patients and nurses. The study was carried out in accordance with the cross-sectional descriptive research feature. Information Form, Spielberger Anxiety Inventory were applied to 40 patients and 14 nurses who are selected by random sampling and are willing to participate in the study. A measurement of the sound level of unified clinics was performed in the morning and after lunch for two days in public hospital. 65% of patients and all of nurses stated that there was noise in the clinic. 48% of patients and 71% of nurses expressed that it caused a headache. The majority of patients and nurses stated that the sources of noise were human and device sounds. The sound levels in the clinics were found to be higher than the sound levels in national and international standards. The state anxiety levels were 39.29 ± 5.61 for nurses and 45.4 ± 4.86 for patients. There was no significant difference between the patient and nurses’ state anxiety scores in terms of clinical sound levels (p > .05). The sound level of the hospital should be ensured to comply with the values recommended by the World Health Organization. The noise control should be provided in hospitals. It has been suggested to investigate the negative psychological effects of noise in particular for nurses and patients in the other studies.

Gürültünün Hasta ve Hemşirelerin Durumluluk Kaygı Düzeyleri Üzerine Etkisinin Karşılaştırılması

Öz

Hastanede gürültü hemşireler ve hastalar için önemli bir sorundur. Gürültüye maruz kalmak ruh sağlığı ve
performans üzerinde olumsuz etkilere neden olabilir. Çalışma birleştirilmiş klinikte ses düzeylerini saptamayı, gürültünün hasta ve hemşirelerin durumluluk kaygı düzeyleri üzerine etkisini karşılaştırılmayı amaçlamıştır. Çalışma kesitsel tanımlayıcı araştırma özelliğine uygun şekilde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen, çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 14 hemşire ve 40 hastadan Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu, Spielberg’in Durumluluk Kaygı-Sürekli Kaygı Envanteri’ni yanıtlamaları istenirken, devlet hastanesinde birleştirilmiş kliniklerin ses düzeyinin ölçümü sabah ve öğleden sonra olmak üzere günde iki defa ve haftada iki gün olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Hastaların %65’i ve hemşirelerin tümü klinikte gürültü olduğunu, hastaların %48’i ve hemşirelerin %71’i gürültünün kendilerinde baş ağrısına neden olduğunu belirtmiş, hasta ve hemşirelerin çoğunluğu gürültü kaynaklarının insan ve cihaz sesleri olduğunu belirtmiştir. Kliniklerde ses düzeyinin ulusal ve uluslararası standartlarındaki ses düzeylerinin oldukça çok üstünde olduğu saptanmıştır. Hemşirelerin durumluluk kaygı puanı 39.29 ± 5.61, hastalarınsa 45.4 ± 4.86’dır. Hasta ve hemşirelerin durumluluk kaygı puanları arasında klinik ses düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir fark saptanmamıştır (p > .05). Koruyucu ruh sağlığı bakımından gürültünün hemşire ve hastalara etkileri araştırılmalı, hastane ses düzeyinin Dünya Sağlık Örgütü’nün önerdiği değerlere uygunluğu sağlanmalı ve sağlık kurumlarında gürültü kontrolü sağlanmalıdır. İleriki çalışmalarda, özellikle gürültünün hemşireler ve hastalar için olumsuz ruh sağlığı etkilerinin araştırılması önerilmiştir.
