In this study, direct and indirect relationships between body measurements (withers height (X1),
rump height (X2), hearth girth (X3), chest depth (X4), body length (X5) and body weight (X6)) taken at the one set of
the lactation period and lactation milk yield (Y) in Maltese goats were determined by path analysis. There were statistically
significant correlation coefficients between lactation milk yield and all body measurements (P<0.01). The
path coefficients which show the direct effects of each variable on estimated variable were calculated as 0.6976 for
X1, -0.4249 for X2, 0.1667 for X3, 0.0531 for X4, 0.0672 for X5 and 0.3557 for X6 respectively, and the determination
coefficient (R2) were found as 0.692.
As a result, it was stated that withers height (X1), rump height (X2) and body weight (X6) could be used as indirect
selection criteria for the selection aimed to milk production.
