AKILLI ŞEHİRLER VE SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİK ÜZERİNE ARAŞTIRMALARIN BİBLİYOMETRİK ANALİZİ: WoS ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

Son yıllarda hızla artan kentleşme, dijitalleşme ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik gereksinimi, “akıllı şehir” kavramını çağdaş kent politikalarının ve akademik araştırmaların merkezine taşımıştır. Bu çalışma, akıllı şehirler ve sürdürülebilirlik kesişiminde yürütülen bilimsel araştırmaların 2011–2025 dönemindeki entelektüel yapısını, tematik yönelimlerini ve küresel işbirliği örüntülerini Web of Science (WoS) veri tabanına dayalı bibliyometrik bir yaklaşımla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma bulguları, ilgili literatürün 2015 yılı sonrasında güçlü bir büyüme ivmesi kazandığını ve akıllı şehir kavramının yalnızca teknolojik bir yenilik olmaktan çıkıp, sürdürülebilir kalkınma, çevresel yönetim ve katılımcı yönetişim süreçleriyle bütünleşen çok boyutlu bir paradigmaya dönüştüğünü göstermektedir. Tematik analizler, alanın entelektüel yapısının “teknoloji ve inovasyon odaklı yaklaşım” ile “sürdürülebilir planlama ve kentsel yönetişim eksenli yaklaşım” olmak üzere birbirini besleyen iki temel aks üzerinde şekillendiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Analizler, bu alanın mühendislik, çevre bilimleri, planlama, bilgi teknolojileri ve sosyal bilimlerin kesişiminde disiplinlerarası bir karakter taşıdığını ve bilimsel üretimin ise Avrupa, Doğu Asya ve Kuzey Amerika merkezleri arasında çok merkezli ve işbirliğine dayalı bir ağ yapısına evrildiğini kanıtlamaktadır. Çalışma, literatürün Birleşmiş Milletler Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Amaçları (SKA) ile güçlü bir bağ kurduğunu tespit ederken, sosyal sürdürülebilirlik, veri etiği ve dijital eşitsizlik gibi konuların henüz yeterince derinleşmediğini ve bu alanlarda araştırma boşlukları bulunduğunu saptamıştır. Sonuç olarak bu araştırma, alanın entelektüel haritasını çıkararak gelecekteki çalışmalara yön göstermekte ve sürdürülebilir kent politikalarının tasarımında bilimsel bilginin stratejik önemini vurgulamaktadır.

BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH ON SMART CITIES AND SUSTAINABILITY: THE EXAMPLE OF WoS

Öz

In recent years, the rapid increase in urbanization, digitalization, and the need for environmental sustainability has positioned the “smart city” concept at the center of contemporary urban policies and academic research. This study aims to examine the intellectual structure, thematic trends, and global collaboration patterns of scientific research conducted at the intersection of smart cities and sustainability during the 2011–2025 period, using a bibliometric approach based on the Web of Science (WoS) database. The research findings indicate that the relevant literature has gained strong growth momentum after 2015 and that the smart city concept has evolved from being merely a technological innovation into a multidimensional paradigm integrated with sustainable development, environmental management, and participatory governance processes. Thematic analyses reveal that the intellectual structure of the field is shaped on two fundamental, mutually reinforcing axes: the “technology and innovation-oriented approach” and the “sustainable planning and urban governance-oriented approach”. The analyses demonstrate that this field possesses an interdisciplinary character at the intersection of engineering, environmental sciences, planning, information technologies, and social sciences, and that scientific production has evolved into a polycentric and collaborative network structure among centers in Europe, East Asia, and North America. While the study identifies a strong link between the literature and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it also determines that subjects such as social sustainability, data ethics, and digital inequality have not yet been sufficiently explored, identifying research gaps in these areas. In conclusion, this research maps the intellectual landscape of the field, providing direction for future studies and emphasizing the strategic importance of scientific knowledge in designing sustainable urban policies.
