Sentiment Analysis of Visitor Experiences at Gastronomy Museums
Öz
The aim of this study is to examine visitors’ experiences of gastronomy museums—which are considered key elements of gastronomic tourism— through user reviews shared on digital platforms. A data mining approach was adopted in the study, and 1,375 visitor reviews on the TripAdvisor platform were analysed. The data were evaluated using a lexicon-based sentiment analysis method, and the reviews were classified into positive, negative and neutral categories. Composite scores indicating sentiment intensity were calculated for each review. The analysis results indicate that the majority of the reviews contained positive content. Of the reviews examined, 80.9 per cent were positive, 15.8 per cent were negative and 3.2 per cent were neutral. The high average sentiment score suggests that gastronomy museums provide a positive experience for visitors. In word cloud analyses, terms such as ‘museum’, ‘food’, ‘local’, ‘visit’ and ‘recommendation’ feature prominently in positive comments, whilst ‘expensive’, ‘dirty’ and ‘rude staff’ Gastronomy museums are among the cultural and tourist attractions that receive positive ratings from visitors. The findings suggest that gastronomy museums play a significant role in strengthening a destination’s image and enhancing visitor satisfaction. The sentiment analysis carried out as part of this study contributes to a better understanding of visitor experiences and provides practical insights for gastronomy museum managers and tourism planners.
