Mobility Theory Framework for Digital Nomadism and Tourism: A Bibliometric Analysis

Digital nomadism is defined as a flexible lifestyle and work model in which individuals, influenced by technological advancements and globalization, become independent of traditional workplaces and engage in remote work using digital tools while residing in different geographical locations. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of academic research on digital nomadism in the Scopus database, identifying trends, key themes, and collaboration networks in the literature. A total of 80 articles from the Scopus database were systematically analyzed through metrics such as thematic maps, citation networks, and co-occurrence analysis using the bibliometrix R package. The findings reveal that the digital nomadism literature is interdisciplinary in nature and has expanded rapidly in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated remote work and digitalization practices, contributing to the growing academic interest in this field. Prominent themes in the literature include lifestyle, mobility, digitalization, and tourism, with these concepts gaining significance within the framework of mobility theory. The results provide a comprehensive mapping of the current state of digital nomadism research, offering a valuable reference point for future studies.

Hareketlilik (Mobility) Teorisi Çerçevesinde Dijital Göçebelik ve Turizm: Bibliyometrik Bir Değerlendirme

Öz

Dijital göçebelik, bireylerin teknolojik gelişmeler ve küreselleşmenin etkisiyle çalışma mekânlarından bağımsız hale gelerek, fiziksel olarak farklı coğrafyalarda yaşarken dijital araçlar aracılığıyla uzaktan çalışabildiği esnek bir yaşam ve çalışma biçimi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çalışma, dijital göçebelik üzerine yapılan akademik araştırmaların Scopus veri tabanında bir bibliyometrik analizini gerçekleştirerek, literatürdeki eğilimleri, temel temaları ve iş birliği ağlarını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Scopus veri tabanında yer alan 80 makale, bibliometrix R paketi yardımıyla tematik haritalar, atıf ağları ve eş görülme analizi gibi metriklerle sistematik bir biçimde analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın bulguları, dijital göçebelik literatürünün disiplinler arası bir yapıya sahip olduğunu ve son yıllarda hızla genişlediğini göstermektedir. COVID-19 pandemisi, uzaktan çalışma ve dijitalleşme uygulamalarını hızlandırarak bu alandaki akademik ilginin artmasına katkı sağlamıştır. Literatürde öne çıkan temalar arasında yaşam tarzı, hareketlilik, dijitalleşme ve turizm yer almakta ve bu kavramların mobilite teorisi çerçevesinde anlam kazandığı vurgulanmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, dijital göçebelik araştırmalarının mevcut durumunu haritalandırarak, gelecekteki çalışmalara yönelik kapsamlı bir referans kaynağı sunmaktadır.
