Examination of Adolescents' Antisocial Behaviors in Terms of School Achievement

Öz

Antisocial behaviours are among the most concerning adolescent issues both in and out of the school context. These behaviours have a significant impact on adolescent and adult physical and mental health. Although there has been extensive research on antisocial behaviours, they warrant further investigation in terms of adolescents’ school achievement. The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between individual features, parenting behaviours, peer relations, neighbourhood features, and adolescent antisocial behaviours. The participants included 882 high school students (67.7% girls, 13-19 years old, Mage = 15.53, SD = 1.29). The results showed that resiliency, callous-unemotional traits, negative coping, poor monitoring, and discipline behaviours were associated with antisocial behaviours. However, peer relations and neighbourhood features were not associated with antisocial behaviours. The results and limitations of the study are discussed along with implications for future research.
