Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, and Laboratory Learning: Editorial for the September 2026 Issue
Öz
This editorial introduces Volume 11, Issue 2 of the Journal of Turkish Chemical Society Section C: Chemistry Education, published in September 2026. The issue includes three research articles, one review article, and one book review that collectively address timely and interconnected themes in contemporary chemistry and science education. A central focus of the issue is sustainability and green chemistry. Two contributions examine this theme from complementary perspectives: one investigates chemistry teachers’ perceptions of green chemistry in Lesotho and its place in curriculum and professional preparation, while the other explores science teacher candidates’ awareness of green chemistry and sustainability in Türkiye, together with their attitudes toward environmental education. A second major theme is the growing role of artificial intelligence in science, STEM, and chemistry education. The systematic review included in the issue maps recent research on artificial intelligence in science education in Türkiye, while the book review extends the discussion by considering future STEM learning practices in the age of AI. The issue also includes a study on video laboratory reports, highlighting how alternative reporting formats may support pre-service science teachers’ laboratory engagement while also producing affective tensions such as anxiety and stress. Taken together, the contributions emphasize the need for chemistry education to remain responsive to changing scientific, technological, environmental, and social conditions while preserving its core educational commitments.
