A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY ON THE WAYS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY SPECIALISTS EXPERIENCE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Öz

The Industrial Revolution, while diminishing the necessity of physical strength, profoundly reshaped work practices, social relationships, and daily habits. In a similar transformative manner, artificial intelligence (AI) reduces reliance on mental capacity, influences human life, and redefines the understanding of existence in the world. This study explores how occupational safety specialists (OSS) experience AI through the lens of Heideggerian phenomenology. In-depth interviews were conducted with nine OSS selected through purposive sampling. Peer review and participant verification techniques were employed to ensure the study’s validity. The collected data were analyzed using holistic, selective and detailed reading approaches, and the interpretations were grouped under two core themes: Entbergen and Verfallen. The results indicate that AI reshapes the way OSS relate to knowledge not merely as a supportive tool but as a medium that re-discloses the world in the Heideggerian sense. Conversely, the perception of AI as a potential surveillance mechanism or a threat to professional roles suggests that it is also experienced as a tool of control and risk.
