INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS

Journal of Surgical Arts (JSurgArts) is a biannual publication. It is a double-blind peer-reviewed periodical. The aim of the Journal of Surgical Arts is to publish high-quality research articles, review articles on current topics, and rare case reports in the field of surgery. Additionally, expert opinions, letters to the editor, scientific letters, and manuscripts on surgical techniques are accepted for publication, and various manuscripts on medicine and surgery history, ethics, surgical education, and forensic medicine fields are included in the journal.
JSurgArts Journal of Surgical Arts (Cerrahi Sanatlar Dergisi, ISSN:1308-0709) is indexed with, or included in, the following; OJS, DOAJ, CROSSREF (Partially), EBSCO Host, Google Scholar, CiteFactor, MIAR Index, EuroPub Database, CABELLS, Dergipark (TUBİTAK), Türkiye Citation Index, Sobiad, Asos Index, İdeal Index, and Akademik Index.
Note: The Journal of Surgical Arts is within the scope of the journals scanned by the international indexes (EBSCO, ..) defined by the Interuniversity Board (ÜAK, Türkiye).
Each submission will be reviewed by at least two external, independent peer reviewers who are experts in their fields in order to ensure an unbiased evaluation process. The editorial board will invite an external and independent reviewer to manage the evaluation processes of manuscripts submitted by editors or by the editorial board members of the journal. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions.

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review, or thesis); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication in the Journal of Surgical Arts is approved by all co-authors. The author(s) transfer(s) the copyright to the Journal of Surgical Arts to be effective if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The author(s) guarantee(s) that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any other language without the consent of the Association. If the manuscript has been presented at a meeting, this should be stated together with the name of the meeting, the date, and the place.
Manuscripts should be submitted in English. All submissions are initially reviewed by the editor and then sent to reviewers. All manuscripts are subject to editing and will, if necessary, be returned to the authors for questions to be answered or for any missing information to be added. For accuracy and clarity, detailed manuscript editing is undertaken for all manuscripts accepted for publication. Final galley proofs are sent to the authors for approval.

Informed consent (Ethics)
The editorial and publication processes of the journal are shaped in accordance with the guidelines of the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and National Information Standards Organization (NISO). The journal conforms to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (doaj.org/bestpractice). An approval of research protocols by the Ethics Committee in accordance with international agreements (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki âEthical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects,â amended in October 2013, www.wma.net) is required for experimental, clinical, and drug studies and for some case reports.

Journal of Surgical Arts requires and encourages the authors and the individuals involved in the evaluation process of submitted manuscripts to disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interest, including financial, consultant, and institutional, that might lead to potential bias or a conflict of interest. Any financial grants or other support received for a submitted study from individuals or institutions should be disclosed to the Editorial Board.

When submitting a manuscript to the Journal of Surgical Arts, authors accept to assign the copyright of their manuscript to the Journal. If rejected for publication, the copyright of the manuscript will be assigned back to the authors. When using previously published content, including figures, tables, or any other material in both print and electronic formats, authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder. Legal, financial and criminal liabilities in this regard belong to the author(s).

Submission Fee
The Journal of Surgical Arts doesn't have an article processing charge (APC) or any submission fees.

Open Access Policy
Journal of Surgical Arts is an open-access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Commons User License
Journal of Surgical Arts allows the reuse and remixing of contents as the category "CC BY" in accordance with a Creative Commons license or other types of license with similar conditions. Journal allows the readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of its articles and allows readers to use them for any other lawful purpose.

Copyright Notice
All published material will become the sole property and will be copyrighted by the Journal. Any part of the publication may be used without written permission, provided that the relevant article is cited. Articles and illustrations become the property of the Journal after publication.

The policy of screening for plagiarism
The manuscripts are scanned by the Publisher’s Office using the iThenticate program for determination of plagiarism and non-ethical situations.

Manuscript submission
JSurgArts accepts only online submissions via the official web site (please click) and submissions that do not meet the JSurgArts publication criterion for standards may be rejected. All submissions are made by the online submission system, by clicking the icon “Submit New Manuscript”.

Manuscript preparation
Manuscripts should have double-line spacing, leaving enough margin at both sides. The font size (12 points) and style (Times New Roman) of the main text should be uniformly taken into account. All pages of the main text should be numbered consecutively. Cover letter, manuscript title, author names (e-mails, institution, ORCİD numbers) and correspondence address, abstract in English (for all articles) and Turkish abstracts (for Turkish authors only), and short title should be uploaded to the Dergipark system in the concerning steps. The cover letter must contain a brief statement that the manuscript has been read and approved by all the authors and that it has not been submitted to, or is not under consideration for publication in, another journal. It should contain the names and signatures of all the authors.

Original articles
The main text includes Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, Tables and Figure Legends.
Abstract: The abstract should be structured and serve as an informative guide for the methods and results sections of the study. Abstracts should not exceed 400 words. It must be prepared with the following subtitles: Background, Aim, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
References: All references should be numbered in the order of mention in the text (Vancouver style). All reference figures in the text should be given in brackets without changing the font size. References should only include articles that have been published or accepted for publication. Reference format should conform to the “Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals” and its updated versions (February 2006). Journal titles should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus. Journal references should provide inclusive page numbers. All authors, if six or fewer, should be listed; otherwise the first six and “et al.” should be written. The style and punctuation of the references should follow the formats below:
Figures, illustrations and tables: All figures and tables should be numbered in the order of appearance in the text. The desired position of figures and tables should be indicated in the text. Legends should be stated in the concerning part of the main text and those for photomicrographs and slide preparations should indicate the magnification and the stain used. Color pictures and figures will be published if they are definitely required and with the understanding that the authors are prepared to bear the costs. Line drawings should be professionally prepared. For recognizable photographs, signed releases of the patient or of his/her legal representatives should be enclosed; otherwise, patient names or eyes must be blocked out to prevent identification.

Review articles
It must include the title, abstract, text, and references sections. As mentioned above, any accompanying tables, graphics, and figures should be prepared.

Case reports
A limited number of case reports are published in each issue of the journal. The presented case(s) should be educative, interesting to the readers, and reflect an exclusive rarity. Case reports should contain the title, summary, case, discussion, and references sections. These reports may consist of a maximum of 6 authors.

Letters to the Editor
The letter must clearly list the title, authors, publication date, issue number, and inclusive page numbers of the publication for which opinions are released. The editors do not issue an acceptance document as an original article for the ‘’letters to the editor.
