A short review on enstatite and pyroxene in L6 chondrites studied by Raman Spectroscopy

Abstract

In our work, Raman spectroscopy analyses based on previous data regarding previous published work on Bursa, Çanakkale, Kamargoan, Château-Renard, Sixiangkou, Braunschweig and Suizhou L6 chondrites were evaluated by the presence of enstatite (Mg2Si2O6 or MgSiO3) and pyroxenes in order to give a brief picture on the data published. L chondrites are the low-iron chemical group of ordinary chondrites. L chondrites are distinguished by their relatively low content of siderophilic elements and medium-sized chondrules (~0.7 mm). L chondrite meteorites with petrographic type 6 (metamorphosed under adequate conditions, all mineral compositions homogenized and all low Ca pyroxene converted to orthopyroxene) are referred to as L6 chondrites. Raman spectroscopy is an extremely sensitive analysis technique to even small differences in chemical structures. Sufficient data can be obtained by Raman spectroscopy to distinguish various structural phases or groups associated with the same mineral class, such as silicates. Thus, Raman spectroscopy allows us to identify the chemical structure of molecules and the minerals in the sample content.
