Enhancing the Efficiency of Medical Supply Inventory Management in Hospitals: An Application of ABC-VED-FNS Matrix Analysis

Öz

Inventory control plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and service delivery of any healthcare institution by ensuring that quality stock is available in the right quantity, at the right place and time, and at the correct cost. To ensure effective inventory control, there are various techniques available, each with its own strengths and weaknesses in terms of applicability. In healthcare institutions, inventory control techniques such as ABC analysis, VED analysis, ABC-VED matrix, and FSN analysis are available to ensure effective inventory management. Choosing the appropriate technique can help optimize stock levels, minimize costs, and improve overall service delivery. The primary aim of this study is to investigate different methods for categorizing stock-keeping units in the hospital's medical supply storage with the objective of enhancing inventory management. The selection of classification techniques depends on a review of the relevant literature and their applicability. In this context, the study aims determine the types of materials that require management control, prioritization, and replenishment intervals, as well as to assess whether the ABC-VED-FNS matrix is suitable for effective and efficient inventory control in hospitals. The results reveal that the established ABC-VED-FSN matrix clearly demonstrates that the wide range of products in the medical supply inventory and a significant portion of the inventory consists of materials found in Category I. Additionally, the fact that Category I materials have high proportions in total expenditure and consumption emphasizes that a large portion of the medical supplies is concentrated in this category. These findings indicate that inventory management strategies need to be directed more effectively and efficiently by focusing on these critical materials.

Hastanelerde Tıbbi Malzeme Envanter Yönetiminin Etkinliğinin Artırılması: ABC-VED-FNS Matris Analizi Uygulaması

Öz

Envanter kontrolü, kaliteli stoğun doğru miktarda, doğru yerde ve zamanda ve doğru maliyetle bulunmasını sağlayarak herhangi bir sağlık kuruluşunun sorunsuz işleyişini ve hizmet sunumunu sağlamada çok önemli bir rol oynar. Etkili envanter kontrolü sağlamak için, uygulanabilirlik açısından her birinin kendi güçlü ve zayıf yönleri olan çeşitli teknikler mevcuttur. Sağlık kuruluşlarında envanterin etkin yönetimini sağlamak için ABC analizi, VED analizi, ABC-VED matrisi, FSN analizi gibi envanter kontrol teknikleri mevcuttur. Uygun tekniğin seçilmesi, stok düzeylerini optimize etmeye, maliyetleri en aza indirmeye ve genel hizmet sunumunu iyileştirmeye yardımcı olabilir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, hastanenin tıbbi malzeme deposunda envanter yönetimini geliştirmek amacıyla stok tutma birimlerini kategorize etmek için farklı yöntemleri araştırmaktır. Sınıflandırma tekniklerinin seçimi, ilgili literatürün gözden geçirilmesine ve bunların kullanılabilirliğine dayanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, yönetim kontrolü, öncelik ve yenileme aralıkları gerektiren malzeme türlerin belirlemek ve ayrıca ABC-VED-FNS matrisinin hastanelerde etkin ve verimli envanter kontrolü için uygun olup olmadığını değerlendirmektir. Sonuçlar, oluşturulan ABC-VED-FSN matrisinin tıbbi malzeme envanterindeki geniş ürün yelpazesini ve envanterin büyük bir kısmının Kategori I'de bulunan malzemelerden oluştuğunu açıkça gösterdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca, Kategori I malzemelerinin toplam harcamada ve tüketimde yüksek oranlara sahip olması, tıbbi malzemelerin büyük bir kısmının bu kategoride yoğunlaştığını vurgulamaktadır. Bu bulgular, envanter yönetimi stratejilerinin bu kritik malzemelere odaklanarak daha etkin ve verimli bir şekilde yönlendirilmesi gerektiğini göstermektedir.
