THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND SELECTED MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES: THE CASE OF TÜRKİYE

Öz

Human development is a concept expressing the richness of human life rather than the richness of the economy in which human-beings live. It is a multidimensional approach that puts the individual at the centre, provides opportunities worthy of human dignity and incorporates numerous social and economic components. Human development index is an important index measuring the socio-economic development levels of countries. This study investigates the relationship between the human development index and selected macroeconomic variables in Turkiye between 2000 and 2024 with the help of statistical analysis by generating annual time series. As a result of the study, a long-run cointegration relationship between human development index and the variables of exports, GDP per capita, inflation, income inequality and unemployment have been found. A 1% increase in exports leads to a 0.114 % rise in the HDI variable, while a 1 % increase in GDP per capita results in a 0.187% increase in HDI. Conversely, a 1 % rise in inflation, income inequality and unemployment decreases the HDI by 0.018%, 0.373%, and 0.003%, respectively.

İNSANİ GELİŞME İLE SEÇİLMİŞ MAKROEKONOMİK DEĞİŞKENLER ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

İnsani gelişme bireylerin içinde bulundukları ekonominin zenginliğinden öte insan hayatının zenginliğini ifade eden bir kavramdır. İnsanı merkezine alan, insan onuruna yakışır imkânlar sunan, sosyal ve ekonomik bir çok unsuru bünyesinde barındıran çok boyutlu bir yaklaşımdır. İnsani gelişme endeksi ülkelerin sosyo ekonomik gelişmişliklerini ölçen önemli bir endekstir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de 2000-2024 dönemi için insani gelişme endeksi ve seçili makroekonomik değişkenler arasındaki ilişki yıllık zaman serileri kullanılarak istatistiksel analiz yardımıyla incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda ihracat, kişi başı GDP, enflasyon, gelir dağılımı eşitsizliği ve işsizlik değişkenlerinin insani gelişme endeksi ile uzun dönemli eşbütünleşme ilişkisine sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İhracatta meydana gelen %1’lik artış İGE değişkeninde %0,114; kişi başına düşen gelirde %1’lik artış ise %0,187 oranında artışa yol açmaktadır. Buna karşılık; enflasyon, gelir eşitsizliği ve işsizlik oranlarındaki %1’lik artış sırasıyla İGE’de %0.018, %0.373 ve %0.003 azalmaya neden olmaktadır.
