It is possible to see Ahmed Avni Konuk as a philosopher, affected by tasawwuf (Islamic mysticism), and kalam (theology). This fact becomes very clear when we look at his style of considering İbnü'l- Arabi in the context of modernism, and his method. Even if the author, who is aware of the indispensable side of tasawwuf in terms of beliefs and thinks defending this discipline as equal to defending the belief system in general, of the annotation of Fususu'l-Hikem in the era of Westernization is not an exact theologian and philosopher, he tries to present his ideal İbnü'l-Arabi in a realistic manner witrh the help of theology, he looks for tasawwuf in a philosophic and theological framework. Thus, he both activates the philosophical method and the theological mainspring which is hid in the text of Fusus and classical annotations, and he makes some values, related to the text that he has explained, more acceptable for other people different form a particular group. By this way, the idea of "vahdet-i vücud", which was used for deepening and stabilizing the religious perception as a functional feature in the classical period, it replaces the historical function of theology by taking the form of a response against the critics directed to Islam in the modern period.
