A META-SYNTHESIS STUDY ON SUSTAINABLE HOSPITALITY

Yıl 2026, Cilt: 4 Sayı: 1, 53 - 72, 30.01.2026

Öz

This study aims to analyze sustainable hotel research in the Web of Science (WOS) database using a meta-synthesis approach. For this purpose, the WoS database was searched using the keyword “sustainable hotel. Ninety-two studies published between 2009 and 2025 were retrieved. Of these studies, only 21 articles published in English were included in the analysis. These articles were analyzed in terms of purpose, methods, sample groups, data collection tools, and results. Ten themes were then derived from the findings of the selected studies. Studies addressing these themes were subsequently identified. The study determined that the research findings clustered into two dimensions: guest-focused and business-focused. The research findings showed that sustainable practices increased satisfaction levels and booking intentions. Sustainability certifications influenced guest preferences but were not the sole determinant. Furthermore, price, rating, and hotel location were found to have a greater impact than other variables. The study found that location and spatial characteristics, along with Green HR (Human Resources) and a green organizational climate, had positive effects on sustainability adoption and hotel performance. Furthermore, the study found that sustainability is often evaluated from an environmental perspective, with economic and social dimensions being overlooked.
