EKONOMİK GELİŞMİŞLİĞİN KÖKENLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Öz

Ülkelerin ekonomik gelişmişlik düzeyleri
arasındaki farkın temelini açıklamaya yönelik farklı argümanlar bulunmaktadır.
Bu makale, ekonomik gelişmenin kökenlerini açıklamaya çalışan dört farklı
hipotezi derinlemesine incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu dört farklı hipotez
şunlardır: (a) coğrafya, (b) din-kültür, (c) kurumlar ve (d) güven. Yapılan
teorik ve uygulamaya yönelik çalışmalar incelendiğinde, kurumlar ve güven
faktörlerinin önemini ortaya koyan araştırmacıların, ekonomik gelişmeyi daha
dinamik bir süreç içerisinde incelemeleri nedeniyle daha makul tezler ortaya
koyduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Coğrafya ve din-kültür hipotezleri ise ekonomik
gelişmenin kökenleri ile ilgili olarak daha determinist bir açıklama
yapmaktadır.
