Development of Play Behavior Scale For Children Aged 36-71 Months: Validity and Reliability Study
Öz
The purpose of the study to develop a scale to determine 36-71 months of preschool children’s
play behaviors. In the process of development scale, children’s play behaviors were recorded by
observation method, an item pool was constituted based on the related literature and other play
behaviors scale which is used, and then determining the validity of scale, content and construct
validity were used. Exploratory factor analysis for 220, confirmatory factor analysis of data for
224 data and total of 444 children’s data have been used during the development of the scale.
Content validity of the scale was provided via expert judgment, exploratory and confirmatory
factor analysis was done for construct validity. Moreover, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was
used for reliability of scale. The analysis results showed that there were five factors with 21
items in the scale. As a result, Play Behavior Scale for 36-71 months preschool children is a
reliable and valid instrument to assess play behaviors.
