Media Literacy Levels Of Students In Education Faculty (Izmir Sample)

This study aims at inquiring the Education faculty students’ relationship between their
media literacy levels, demographic characteristics and the mass media ( the new media).
This study is a descriptive survey model. The study group covers 705 prospective teachers in
Dokuz Eylül University and Ege University. The data gathered from the surveys were analyzed
by using descriptive statistics, One Way Anova Test and Scheffe Test. The findings indicated
that Education faculty students’ media literacy levels were a little higher than the moderate
level. However, the variables such as age and department were not found to be effecting to
the media literacy levels. Whereas, the variables of gender, having a computer, and having
internet connection were found to be contributing to the media literacy levels of the students.
