Pedegogical Formation Students’ Opinions about the Necessity of Art Education

Öz

Art education with its theoretical and practical dimension is necessary not only for the individuals who aim to be an artist but for every person. In literature there are numerous art education concepts advocating that art education is necessary for revealing the artistic talent and creativity of the individual, for realizing his / her artistic thoughts and dreams, for enabling him / her to think freely and uniquely, for developing his / her aesthetic taste and critical thinking skills, for enabling him / her to look after the artistic values of the past civilizations and for enabling him / her to know and to protect the contemporary cultural and artistic assets. This study has been conducted for determining the opinion of the students having education in the Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program in the Faculty of Education concerning the necessity of art education. The study has been conducted by using observation - based case study (case study) method, which is a kind of descriptive research. The data of the study were attained from the opinions obtained as a result of the group work carried out through Snowball Technique, which is among the Active Learning Techniques, and from the open - ended survey questions. The study group was formed by 60 visual arts teacher candidates attending to Gazi University Pedagogical Formation Training Certificate Program by using Easily Accessible Case sampling method. The data obtained from an application realized with Snowball Technique and from the survey questions were interpreted by content analysis by determining the upper theme. The results of the study are important for determining the opinions of visual arts teacher candidates on the teaching profession.
