Many people's habits have changed positively or negatively since the introduction of social media into their lives. Social media tools are viewed as platforms that help people interact more and share their information, ideas, thoughts, and feelings more comfortably with others. These platforms do, however, have negative aspects in addition to their positive effects on people's lives. These two aspects affect people's lives in numerous ways, and social values are at the forefront of these. Although people can freely express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas on social media platforms, this can sometimes lead to hate speech by exceeding the limits of free expression (either verbally or through nonverbal communication (symbol, sign, emoji, etc.). This study surveyed the Web of Science database indexes for social media and hate speech on April 6, 2022, and assessed scientific studies using the bibliometric method. The analyses revealed that after 2013, researchers began focusing on studies on social media and hate speech, and after 2018, this subject was more frequently studied. The majority of these studies were produced by academics in the United States. The Valencia Politecn University in Spain has been found to be the institution where the majority of research on social media and hate speech is done. According to research on social media and hate speech, Twitter, machine learning, deep learning, Facebook, social networking, sentiment analysis, and hate speech perception are all strongly related to these issues.
