Schema Therapy is an integrated therapy that relates psychological characteristics and problems
to childhood experiences while considering the role of temperamental characteristics. Schema Therapy was
developed to understand and treat personality disorders and long-term emotional and interpersonal problems and
it can be useful in curing chronic behavioral problems such as obesity. The purpose of this article; it is a
compilation of the relationship between early maladaptive schemas developed from early life experiences and
obesity by examining articles related to the subject. While writing the Obesity and Schemes Review, it was aimed
to collect and compile the data obtained from the existing literature studies and to correlate these data. In this
context; "Science Direct", "Pubmed" and "Google Scholar" databases and international journals were used and a
search was made by typing the keywords "obesity" and "schema therapy" into the search engine and trying to reach
all available resources. The articles on the subject of Obesity and Schemes were examined and publications related
to the subject were compiled. Eating behaviors that result in obesity are clearly characterized by early schemas.
Schema focused therapies, which are a holistic therapy, are effective on pathological eating behavior. Since
individuals show eating behavior as a way of coping with their emotions, it would be beneficial to study emotion
regulation skills with schema therapy. More research with more participants is needed to clarify the nature and
direction of interactions between early maladaptive schemas and eating pathology and to determine whether
schema focused therapies have shown a positive effect.
