WORK LIFE BALANCE IN SOUTHERN EUROPE AND TURKEY: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
Öz
In this study, work life balance policies in the Southern European countries and in Turkey, which is regarded as similar to these countries in terms of welfare regime, are reviewed. In this context, the regulations of Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey within the scope of child care services, parental leave and flexible working are analyzed in a legal dimension as well as comparatively with the help of some macro data concerning these countries. It is determined that the level of policies aimed at facilitating work life balance in these countries are similar and these work life balance practices fall behind the practices of other welfare regimes. On the other hand, although some policy practices have accelerated in recent years due to the harmonization efforts with European Union and demographic changes like low fertility and population aging, it is understood that these are not on the desired level. It is revealed that although Turkey falls behind these countries in some areas it shares similar trends with them regarding work life balance policies.
