This study addresses the intersection of recreation management and sports sciences through both an internal disciplinary perspective and an interdisciplinary approach. The integration of these two fields is believed to play a significant role in enhancing the quality of life. The primary objective of this study is to systematically examine and evaluate the common ground and interaction areas between the disciplines of Recreation Management and Sports Sciences, as well as the contributions of interdisciplinary collaboration to the quality of life, in light of the current literature. To achieve this goal, a systematic literature review methodology was adopted, involving keyword searches across relevant academic databases for articles and theses concerning the subject. The findings obtained through this method were then thematically synthesized. The study discusses subjects such as the management of sport and recreation, the planning of sports facilities, sustainability, public health, professional development, applications in local governments, and sports tourism. Furthermore, it touches upon the interdisciplinary interaction between recreation management education and sports science faculty members. The research emphasizes the critical role of recreation and sports management in supporting individuals’ physical, mental, and social health, and ultimately enhancing their quality of life. Considering the prevalence of sports-based courses in the curricula of recreation management programs in Türkiye, the involvement of academics with a sports science background in teaching these courses is expected to raise the quality of education. Recreation departments and specialization areas within sports science faculties can also provide a strong academic contribution to this process. In this context, interdisciplinary collaboration within the academic staff is deemed a necessary approach for both improving academic competence and responding to sectoral needs.
