OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluation the awareness of radiation in the fifth class medical faculty students and to draw attention to this subject.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: A survey consisting of 10 multiple choice questions about radiation sources, radiological examinations, protection from radiation was applied to 50 students studying Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in fifth class. The results obtained from the questionnaire were evaluated as the distribution of correct and incorrect answers.

RESULTS: Twenty-three female (22-24 years, mean age 23.08 years), 27 males (22-30 years, mean age 23.11 years) participated in the study. The correct answer rate was 70.4%, wrong answer rate was 29.6% for the participants in whole survey. The highest rate accuracy answered question is that the gamma rays are the source of ionizing radiation. The highest rate incorrect answered question is that the biggest source of ionizing radiation exposed in developed countries is background radiation.

CONCLUSIONS: Radiation sources, biological effects, protection from radiation, radiological algorithms are the topics that should be given more importance in the course content of medical faculty.
