Development of renewable energy requires the adoption and internalization of an international understanding by state institutions. Turkey is an energy dependent country. High degree of external dependency on energy creates problems in terms of energy supply security in Turkey. Policies and policy instruments for increasing the share of renewable energy sources in Turkey constitute an important policy area in terms of eliminating this problem. The aim of the study is to examine the renewable energy policies of Turkey and to analyze the compliance of these policies with the policies of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). In the first part of this study, IRENA has been examined in terms of social constructivist theory. Moreover, IRENA's objectives, policies and policy instruments have been examined. In the second part of the study, Turkey's renewable energy policy and the compatibility of these policies with the IRENA’s policies have been evaluated.
