The Dying Children: Helping During the Process of Treatment and Acceptance of Death

Abstract

The fact that a child will die is a very difficult to accept and to live through. During the fatal illness, especially at the terminal stage the child suffers a lot. The child and his family have to live with the problems of fatal illness as well as with the pains and anxiety of death. They need more support, security and step by step guidance during this period than ever. The children are hurt emotionally by the uncertainity about illness and treatment and the interventions done vvithout any information. İn order to protect the child from further pain and support him. The information about the illness and the process of treatment should be provided continously for the child and his family. İt is important to develop a supportive comminication with the child and his family for the sake of treatment and effective interventions. The primary health çare team and the experts whom they work with are the ones to provide this kind of support. To understand and recognize the needs of the child and the family and not let them feel lonely and helpless are the essential compenents of the treatment.ln this paper the information that will help the dying children and their families during their çare is revievved.

ÖLÜM SÜRECİNDE OLAN ÇOCUK: ÖLÜMÜ KABUL VE TEDAVİ SÜRECİNDE ETKİLİ YARDIM

Öz

Bir çocuğun ölüm sürecini yaşamak katlanılması çok zor olan bir gerçekliktir. Ölümcül hastalığın özellikle terminal dönemlerinde, bir çocuğun dayanma gücünü aşan ağrı ve acılar yaşanır. Bir yandan hastalığa ilişkin sıkıntılar öte yandan yaklaşan ölüm nedeniyle yaşanan acılar, kaygılar çocuk ve ailesinin başa çıkması gereken yoğun duygulardır.Bu dönemde her zamankinden çok desteğe, güvenceye ve adım adım yönlendirilmeye gereksinimleri vardır. Tedaviye ve hastalığa ilişkin belirsizlikler, bilgi vermeksizin yapılan girişimler, çocukları duygusal olarak örseler. Çocukların daha fazla örselenmesini engellemek ve dayanma güçlerini desteklemek için, onlara ve ailelerine gerekli bilginin zamanında verilmesi ihmal edilmemelidir. Ölümcül hastalığı olan çocuk ve ailesi ile destekleyici bir iletişim kurabilmek, ruhsal gereksinimlerini karşılamaya yönelik girişimlerde bulunmak oldukça önemlidir. Hastalığın tedavisinde birincil bakım veren tedavi ekibi ve onların ilişki kuracağı diğer uzmanlar bu desteği sağlayabilecek en yakın bireylerdir. Ailenin ve çocuğun gereksinimlerini doğru tanımlayabilmek, onları yalnızlık, çaresizlik ya da acı içinde bırakmamaya özen göstererek yaklaşmak gerekir. Bu yazıda ölüm sürecindeki çocuklara ve ailelere bakım sağlarken gözönünde bulundurulması gereken ve yardımcı olabilecek bilgiler derlenmiştir.
