Abstract

Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate whether the effects of being an "immigrant" cause any differences on the symptoms of depression of the Turkish people living in Germany. Method: The Turkish immigrants with depression who have come to Germany before the age of 18 and had lived there more than 15 years (Group A) and the Turkish depressive patients living in Turkey (Group T), 20 in each group, have been intervievved and been given Hamilton and Zung Depression Scales, SCL-90 som-dep subscales and a symptom checklist. Results: The total scores of Zung depression and symptom list were significantly higher in group A. The intervievv according to the Hamilton Depression Scale has shovvn that GroupT was clear about the illness but groupA had a tendency to find reasons for the symptoms, such as bad vveather, bad food or the need for rest.

ALMANYA'DA YAŞAYAN TÜRKLER'DE "GÖÇMEN OLMA"NIN DEPRESYON VE SOMATİK SEMPTOMLAR ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Almanya'da yaşayan Türklerde "göçmen olma"nın depresyon semptomları üzerinde bir farklılığa yol açıp açmadığını ortaya koymaktır. Yöntem: 18 yaşından sonra gelen ve en az 15 yıldır Almanya'da yaşayan depresyon tanısı alanlar (grupA) ile Türkiye'de yaşayan ve depresyon tanısı almış (grup T) 20'şer Türk hasta ile görüşülerek Hamilton ve Zung Depresyon Ölçekleri, SCL90 dep-som altölçekleri ve bir semptom tarama listesi verilmiştir. Bulgular: Testlerin genel ortalama puanlarına bakıldığında Zung Depresyon Ölçeği ve somatik semptom tarama listesi puanları Grup A'da anlamlı olarak daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Hamilton Depresyon ölçeği doğrultusunda görüşme yapılırken, Grup T'de hastaların hastalığının bilincinde olduğu, Grup A'da ise yakınmalarını iklime, kötü yiyeceklere, istirahat ihtiyacına bağlama eğiliminde oldukları gözlenmiştir.
