Elderly Suicides in Turkey

Abstract

Suicide statistics have been collected by "Suicide Statistics Form" vvhich is filled by poliçe and gendarma since 1962. The data is published annually. İn this paper suicide of the people över 65 are examined by means of suicide cause, method, age, and sex distribution and compared with the results of previous studies n conclusion; suicide rate is increased in the elderly people by rapid social and economic changes, immigration, and other stresors.

TÜRKİYE'DE YAŞLI İNTİHARLARI

Öz

intihar vakalarına ilişkin veriler 1962 yılından itibaren tüm Türkiye bazında Jandarma ve emniyet teşkilatları yetkililerinin doldurduğu "İntihar İstatistik Formu" aracılığı ile toplanmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar her yıl derlenip yıllık olarak yayınlanmaktadır. Bu yazıda 1974-1996 yılları arasında 65 yaş ve üstü grupta intihar sebepleri, yöntemleri, yaş, cinsiyet özellikleri açısından değerlendirilerek daha önce yapılmış diğer çalışmalar ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak toplumda ortalama yaşın artması, hızlı sosyal ve ekonomik değişimler, göç ve diğer sosyal stresörlere paralel olarak yaşlı intiharları sayısında artma görülmektedir
