Adolescence, when rapid changes occur in developmental areas, is a period when risk-taking behaviors increase. This systematic review study examined the factors affecting risk-taking behaviors during adolescence. As a result of the searches conducted with keywords in various databases, 35 research articles were included according to the determined criteria. It was seen that the most frequently used tool in the studies was the ‘Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART),’ a test that measures individuals’ risk-taking tendency. As a result, it was seen that risk-taking behaviors of adolescents were affected by factors such as peers, family environment, parent-adolescent relationship, adolescent’s past experiences, psychological maturity and self-control skills, socio-economic status, etc. The results of this review are important in terms of contributing to the research literature by providing a holistic perspective on risky behaviors during adolescence.
