Öz

Astronomi bilimi, yapısı ve evrendeki gök cisimlerinin incelenmesi açısından insanlığın en eski bilim dallarındandır. Eski insanlar gökyüzünü ve evreni anlamaya çalıştılar ve Antik Grek dönemine kadar mitoloji ve dinden yararlandılar. Yazılı kaynaklardan önce ve sonra gökyüzü birçok kültürde neredeyse merkezi bir konumdaydı. Yazılı kaynaklardan sonra astronomi bilimi hakkında belli bir bilgiye sahip olsak da yazılı kaynaklardan öncesine ilişkin yorumlarda arkeolojik kalıntılara ihtiyacımız vardır. Bu gereklilik astronomi, astronomi tarihi ve arkeoloji disiplinlerinin birlikte çalışmasını zorunlu kılar. Bu bağlamda arkeoloji, özellikle 18. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren tarih öncesi dönemlere ait kalıntıları yorumlayabilmek için astronomi biliminden yararlanmak zorunda kalmış ve 20. yüzyılın başlarında arkeoastronomi adı verilen yeni bir disiplin doğmuştur. Bu makalede, astronomi ve arkeoloji çalışmalarının işbirliği ile ortaya çıkan arkeoastronomi disiplininin gelişimi ele alınacak ve arkeoastronomi çalışmaları bağlamında Helenistik Dönem sonuna kadar hem mimari yapıların hem de yazılı ve görsel kayıtların astronomi ile ilişkilerine dair elde edilen bulgular değerlendirilecektir.

Öz

The science of astronomy is one of the oldest knowledges of humanity in terms of its structure and the study of celestial bodies in the universe. Ancient people tried to understand the sky and the universe, and mostly the sky was at the center of their culture both before and after the written sources. Although we have a certain knowledge about the science of astronomy after written sources, we need archaeological remains related to ancient civilizations, especially for what we know and interpretation of this science before written sources. Due to this requirement, both the history of astronomy and archaeology sometimes have to work together. Because of this requirement, archaeology had to benefit from the science of astronomy in order to interpret the remains belonging to prehistoric periods, especially from the middle of the 18th century, and a new discipline called archaeoastronomy was born in the early 20th century. In this article, the development of the discipline of archaeoastronomy that emerged with the cooperation of astronomy and archaeology studies will be discussed and in the context of archaeoastronomy studies, the findings obtained until the end of the Hellenistic Period regarding the relations of both architectural structures and written and visual records with astronomy will be evaluated.
