Types of Asphalt Mixing Plants with High Energy Consumption and Burner Selection Based on Application

In this study, the types of asphalt mixing plants used in asphalt production and the burner systems used in these plants were examined in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impacts. Asphalt mixing plants were classified as batch and drum-mix plants based on production techniques, and as mobile and stationary plants based on their mode of operation. The operating principles and energy consumption characteristics of each plant type were evaluated comparatively. Additionally, burner systems used for drying and heating aggregates-including modulating, low-NOx, and dual-fuel burners-were analyzed. The results indicate that in high-capacity plants, modulating and low-NOx burners are more advantageous in terms of energy efficiency and emission control, while simpler burner systems are sufficient for low-capacity plants. Accordingly, it was demonstrated that the correct selection of burners in asphalt plants minimizes environmental impacts by reducing fuel consumption.
