The article examines the relationship between positive body image and social media posts. The study aims to outline how body positivity hashtags influence positive body image. Positive body image has recently become more prominent in body image studies. It’s a unique, multifaceted construct encompassing aspects like body appreciation, body acceptance, and body acceptance by others. Body appreciation (awareness of the body's functionality) and body acceptance (embracing the body with all its imperfections) serve as a protective factor against physical appearance comparisons. Individuals who feel their bodies are accepted by others are less preoccupied with their physical appearance, focusing instead on how they feel and how their bodies function. Studies have shown that women with a positive body image exhibit these aspects. The body positivity movement stands against discrimination and stigmatization, asserting that a person is more than just her/his body. With this movement, the concept of being comfortable with one’s body has gained visibility on social media. Studies focusing on posts, hashtags, and text indicate that posts with text, rather than just photos featuring bodies, are more beneficial for positive body image. The body positivity movement emerged as a counterculture to the thin-ideal. However, users seeking followers, visibility, and advertising often use body positivity hashtags alongside multiple others, calling into question the movement’s inclusiveness. Men, on the other hand, receive less attention than women regarding positive body image in both the media and academia.
