The Validity and Reliability Study of the Turkish Form of Prejudice Against Asylum Seekers Scale

Öz

The purpose of the current study was to adapt and validate the Prejudice Against Asylum Seekers Scale (Anderson, 2018) in the Turkish context. To examine the psychometric properties of the scale, item-total correlations, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis were performed. The model fit of the two-factor structure was found to be acceptable (CFI= .92, RMSEA= .075, GFI=.90, AGFI= .87, NFI= .89). The two factors were defined as “classical prejudice” and “conditional prejudice” as in the original scale. The Cronbach’s Alpha for the total scale was calculated as .77. To calculate the criterion validity, the correlations between the scores of the scale and Social Dominance Orientation, Right-Wing Authoritarianism, and Attitudes Towards Syrian Immigrants Scale were examined. The findings showed that the current scale is reliable and valid. This scale is critical as it indicates not only classical but also conditional prejudice and will make an important contribution to the literature.

Mültecilere Yönelik Önyargı Ölçeğinin Türkçe Formunun Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Anderson (2018) tarafından geliştirilen “Prejudice Against Asylum Seekers Scale” isimli ölçeğin Türkçeye uyarlanmasıdır. Geliştirilmekte olan ölçeğin psikometrik özelliklerini incelemek amacıyla madde-toplam test puanı korelasyon katsayıları, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ve güvenirlik analizi uygulanmıştır. Bu analizler sonucunda, ölçeğin “klasik önyargı” ve “koşullu önyargı” olarak tanımlanan iki faktörlü yapısının kabul edilebilir düzeyde olduğu bulunmuştur (CFI= .92, RMSEA= .075, GFI=.90, AGFI= .87, NFI= .89). Tüm test puanının Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlık katsayısı ise .77 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca, ölçeğin ölçüt geçerliğini incelemek amacıyla ölçekten elde edilen puanlar ile Sosyal Baskınlık Yönelimi Ölçeği, Sağ Kanat Yetkecilik Ölçeği ve Suriyeli Göçmenlere Yönelik Tutum Ölçeğinden alınan puanlar arasındaki ilişkiler incelenmiş, elde edilen bulgular ilgili kısımda aktarılmıştır. Bulgular sonuç olarak, Mültecilere Yönelik Önyargı Ölçeği’nin Türkçe Formu’nun güvenilir ve geçerli bir ölçek olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu ölçeğin sadece klasik değil koşullu önyargıyı da göstermesi açısından önemli olduğu ve bu yönüyle literatüre önemli katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
