In the past, a secondary importance was given to the non-economic determinants of economic growth and to the role of institutional factors. However, recent economic studies focus parrticularly on the importance of non-economic factors. The question whether economic freedoms that exist within the institutional structure have an impact on the economic growth of a country has led to an increase in research on economic freedoms. But it is not known how well the existing research can answer this question. Therefore, this study investigates how the research on the relationship between economic freedoms and economic growth has developed in the literature and determines current trends. According to the findings, the majority of research clearly shows that economic growth reaches higher levels in countries with higher levels of economic freedom.
