INTERPRETING COLLINGWOOD'S ARTISTIC APPROACH THROUGH THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHIES OF ARATA ISOZAKI, JAMES CORNER AND KARIM RASHID

Bu çalışmada sanatın; mimarlık, planlama ve tasarım temel alanında adından söz ettiren kişilerin tasarıma bakış açıları üzerinden okunabileceği hipotezinden yola çıkılmıştır. Böyle bir bakış açısı ile öncelikle, sanatın ne olduğunu mevcut teoriler ve genel görüşler üzerinden tartışan Collingwood'un "Sanatın İlkeleri" adlı kitabı temel alınmış ve sanat olgusunun özelliklerine ilişkin çıkarımlarda bulunulmuştur. Sanatın disiplinler arası bir olgu olduğunu vurgulamayı amaçlayan çalışmada ardından; mimari, iç mimari, peyzaj mimarisi, şehir planlaması ve endüstri ürünleri tasarımı alanlarına odaklanılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda; Arata Isozaki, James Corner ve Karim Rashid gibi literatüre girmiş başarılı çalışmalara sahip örnek isimler, söz konusu disiplinleri temsilen ele alınmıştır. Bu isimlerin seçilmesinde, çalışmanın derinlik kazanmasına katkı sağlama potansiyeli açısından, ortaya koydukları eserlerin felsefi düşünce barındırması da ayrı bir etken olmuştur. Örneklemin belirlenmesinin ardından, söylemleri ve kendilerine yönelik yapılan araştırmalar incelenmiş, doküman analizi yöntemiyle tasarım anlayışları ortaya koyulmuştur. Daha sonra her bir isim için, tasarıma bakışlarını temsil edecek şekilde ayrı ayrı kavram haritaları oluşturulmuştur. Son olarak, belirlenen sanat ilkeleri ve kavramlar birbirleriyle eşleştirilmiş, aralarındaki ilişkiler literatür üzerinden açıklanmış ve tartışılmıştır. Sanatın ilkeleri bağlamında, tasarımcıların tasarım anlayışlarına göre belirlenen kavramlar incelendiğinde, sanatın tasarım disiplinleri ile en çok; “kendine özgü bir düşünme süreci” taşıması, “yaratıcı bir süreç” olması, “süreç ve deneyim odaklı” olması, “hayal gücüne dayalı” olması noktalarında örtüştüğü belirlenmiştir. Sanat olgusunun, mimarlık temel alanında deneyim sahibi tasarımcıların bakış açıları üzerinden okunabilir olduğu hipotezinin bu bilgiler ışığında olumlandığı söylenebilir. Çalışma sonucunda, farklı tasarım disiplinlerindeki tasarıma yaklaşım biçimlerinin çeşitli boyutlarda, sanatın bir takım özelliklerinden, prensiplerinden beslendiği ve bu durumun kendi içinde önemli bir zenginlik içerdiği anlaşılmıştır.

This study posits a hypothesis that the essence of art can be understood through the perspectives of influential figures in architecture, planning, and design. Beginning with an analysis of Collingwood's "The Principles of Art," the paper extrapolates characteristics of the art phenomenon. Emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of art, the study then focuses on architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, urban planning, and industrial product design. Noteworthy figures such as Arata Isozaki, James Corner, and Karim Rashid are selected to represent these disciplines, chosen for their potential depth and philosophical contributions in their works. Following the identification of the sample, discourse analysis and document analysis methods are employed to reveal the design philosophies of these figures. Subsequently, individual concept maps representing the design perspectives of each figure are created. Finally, identified art principles and concepts are paired, and their relationships are elucidated and discussed in light of the literature. In the context of art principles, an examination of concepts determined by designers reveals significant overlaps with art, particularly in terms of possessing a unique thought process, being a creative and process-oriented experience, and relying on imagination. The study concludes that design approaches in different disciplines draw from various dimensions of art, contributing to significant richness within the design discourse.
