Comparison of the Water Jet and Some Traditional Surface Treatment Methods

Öz

There are many different methods of stone surface treatment that are currently used to improve the aesthetic appearance of the stone surface or to increase the roughness. Traditional methods have some disadvantages that may reduce the market interest for particular applications. In this study, the natural stone sample named Sardinian Basalt was treated by water jet surface treatment method. The results were compared to those obtained with traditional methods (bush hammering, polishing). The results of the color, gloss, luminance and roughness analyses were used as comparison parameters. Results so far achieved indicate that the application of water jets in surface treatment can reduce (or even eliminate) some disadvantages of traditional techniques because it enables to obtain a surface with required roughness, while preserving aesthetic appearance of the stone

Öz

Taşın yüzeyine estetik bir görüntü vermek ve taşın pürüzlülüğünü artırmak için birçok yüzey işleme yöntemi kullanılmaktadır. Geleneksel yöntemler pazarda kendilerine olan ilginin azalmasına sebep olabilecek farklı dezavantajlara sahiptirler. Bu çalışmada su jeti ile Sardinya Bazaltı isimli doğal taş numunesi üzerinde yüzey işlemesi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, geleneksel yöntemler kullanılarak (taraklı çekiçleme, cilalama) yapılan yüzey işleme uygulamalarının sonuçları ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Karşılaştırmada renk, ışıklılık, parlaklık ve pürüzlülük analiz sonuçları kullanılmıştır. Şimdiye kadar elde edilen sonuçlar, yüzey işlemede su jeti uygulamasının kayaçtaki estetik görünümü koruyarak yüzeye gerekli pürüzlülüğü sağlayabildiği için geleneksel yöntemlerin bazı dezavantajlarını azalttığını (hatta giderdiğini) göstermektedir
