Hydrocephalus Internus and other Neural Malformations, Brachyury in German Holstein Twin Calves

Öz

A two-days-old female German Holstein twin calf borned a deformed cranium. The calf was not able to endure and died shortly after the clinical examination and this calf was submitted to necropsy. Pathological-anatomical examination showed multiple malformations including hydrocephalus internus and atrophy of cerebellar hemispheres, hypoplasia of the cerebellum, syringomyelia in the cervical spinal cord and the cranial part of the thoracic spinal cord, hydromyelia in the caudal part of the thoracic spinal cord, scoliosis between the fifth and seventh thoracic vertebra and bilateral keratitis could be associated with a positive result for bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) virus antibodies. Its male co-twin with brachyury and also dam of the twins were positive for BVD virus antibodies by ELİSA Test. Infection by BVD virus in an early stage of the pregnancy may be assumed to be responsible for the multiple malformations in the female twin and the brachyury of the male co-twin.

İkiz Alman Holştayn Buzağıda Hidrosefali Internus, Diğer Sinirsel Malformasyonlar ve Kısa Kuyrukluluk Olgusu

Öz

İki günlük Alman Holştayn Buzağı deforma bir kafa şekli ile doğdu. Buzağı, klinik muayeneden kısa süre sonra dayanamadı ve öldü ve daha sonra nekropsiye verildi. Yapılan Patolojik-Anatomik inceleme neticesinde hidrosefali internus ve serebellar hemisferlerin atrofisi, serebellum hipoplazisi, servikal omurilikte siringomiyeli ve torasik omuriliğin kraniyal kısmı dâhil olmak üzere çoklu şekil bozuklukları, torasik spinal kordonun kaudal kısmında hidromyeli, beşinci ve yedinci torakal vertebra arasında görülen skolyoz ve bilateral keratitis görülen ikiz doğan iki günlük bir Alman Holştayn buzağıda bovine viral diyare (BVD) virüsü antikorları pozitif çıkan bu sonuç görülen anomaliler ile ilişkili olabiliceği kanısına varıldı. Brachyury (kısa kuyruk) ile karakterize diğer erkek buzağıda ve ikiz buzağıların annesi olan inekde yapılan ELISA testi neticesinde BVD virüs antikorları için pozitif olarak tespit edildi. BVD virüsünün gebeliğin erken evresindeki enfeksiyonu, dişi buzağının çoklu malformasyonundan ve erkek buzağıda brachury’sinden sorumlu olduğu varsayılabilir.
