A PRAİSE OF ABDAL MUSA BELONGİNG TO “YETİMİ”
Öz
Abdal Musa, one of the leading figures of the Alevi-Bektashi tradition, was a Sufi mystic who played an active role in the institutionalisation of Bektashism and its spread across Anatolia. Referred to in historical sources and folk narratives as a dervish endowed with miraculous powers, Abdal Mûsâ is described as a figure of strong religious, political and social character, and has been held up as an exemplar of the ‘alp-eren’ type precisely because of these qualities. Indeed, he himself trained alp-eren at the dervish lodge he established in Teke Village. Countless tales and eulogies have been recounted and written about Abdal Mûsâ, who played a role in the development of many dervishes and poets, foremost among them Kaygusuz Abdal. One of these poems is by Yetimi. The poem bearing the pen name “Yetimi”, identified on folio 18a of the poetry collection registered as no. 2562 in the Manuscripts Collection of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Library, was found to have been written as a panegyric to Abdal Mûsâ, and this poem, has not been identified in the divans of poets bearing the pen name Yetimi or in other anthologies. Aiming to contribute to Yetimi’s poetic corpus, verse works centered on Abdal Mûsâ, and mecmua studies, this study first introduces the aforementioned poetry collection (mecmua), examines the poem bearing the pen name (mahlas) 'Yetimi' in terms of its attribution to the poet as well as its formal and thematic characteristics, and presents its transcribed text for the benefit of the reader."
