Manipulation Of Textile Surfaces And Trialling Of Digital Transfer Printing
Abstract
Textile designers carry out their creative work using technological advancements. The developments in printing technologies brings about new techniques in textile design, and these innovations bring new dimensions to the design creation process. The purpose of this research is to create new and original textile designs in a heuristic creative process: applying digital transfer printing technique, used for woven textile fabrics, to the surfaces sized by manipulation techniques. Literature review was carried out to provide the conceptual framework of the research. During the design phase, empirical methods were used to test digital printing on manipulated textile surfaces. The designed patterns were transferred onto prepared surfaces using digital transfer printing method. This work is an innovation in textile design and encompasses only woven fabric surfaces. It is suggested to try application on different textile surfaces.
