Some Deficiencies In Current Turkish Lexicography and Steps to Be Taken In This Field
Abstract
Lexicography is the scholarly discipline of procedures involved in writing, editing or compiling dictionaries Lexicographers add in dictionaries new entries, enrich their contents with new technology and even new types of words (neologisms). As new types of dictionaries daily set precedence for Turkish lexicographers, recent works in our country are fast evolving. However some defencies are prevalent in Turkish dictionaries such as choosing entries, their morphological, etymological, phonetic and grammatical features in line with modern lexicological trend. On the other hand Turkish lexicographers are bound to take the initiative to introduce many types of specific dictionaries available in the West for a long time, those not known yet by the Turkish readership.
