KIBRIS ADASINDA TANZİMAT’IN UYGULANIŞI

The change experienced in Europe and the activities emerging at the end of the 18th century were going to expose the Ottoman State to this influence. We can observe that the French Revolution in 1789 and the concepts which came on the scene after it affected the Ottoman State which had a multi-national structure. Even if we think that the inceptive nationalist movements in the Ottoman State arouse from its executions, we must not ignore the external effects. Particularly the policy of the Great Britain, France and Russia towards it with some excuses became more determinant. The revolts and the roles of these states influenced the process negatively. In the face of these developments, the Ottoman State tried to perform several arrangements starting from the era of Selim III. These reorganizations made in favor of the minorities by the Ottoman State with positive intents definitely were not going to yield the expected results. In this study, it is going to be focused on the effects of the imperial edict of reorganization in Cyprus.

Avrupa’da yaşanan değişim ve 18. Yüzyılın sonlarına doğru ortaya çıkan hareketlenmeler Osmanlı Devletini de bu etkilenmeye maruz bırakacaktır.1789 Fransız İhtilali ve ortaya çıkan kavramların çok uluslu bir yapıya sahip olan Osmanlı Devletini de etkisine aldığını görürüz. Osmanlı devletinde başlayan milliyetçi hareketlerin kendi uygulamalarından kaynaklandığını düşünecek olsak bile dış etkileri gözden kaçırmamız gerekir. Özellikle İngiltere, Fransa ve Rusya’nın çeşitli bahanelerle Osmanlı devletine karşı izledikleri siyaset daha belirleyici olmuştur. Çıkan isyanlar ve savaşlarda bu devletlerin rolleri bu süreci olumsuz yönde etkilemiştir. Osmanlı devleti tüm bu gelişmeler karşısında Selim III. döneminden itibaren bir takım düzenlemeler gerçekleştirmeye çalışmıştır. Kesinlikle iyi niyetle gerçekleştirilmiş olan düzenlemelerle devletin azınlıklara karşı yaptığı düzenlemeler beklenen sonuçları vermeyecektir. Bu çalışmada Tanzimat Fermanının ilanının Kıbrıs adasındaki yansıması incelenmeye çalışılacaktır.
