The effect of Music Upon the Emotional Status and Styles to cope with Stress of University Students

Öz

This research is conducted in order to specify the effects of listening to music on state of mind and undergraduate level of overcoming with stress and it is both experimental and theoretical study. The sample is consisted of conservatory students. According to research findings; it is demonstrated that there is a significant difference between before and after a weekly music concert in depression point averages statistically and before concert depression points were higher(t=-3.25, P< 0.001). While music has no effect on hope level, it is determined that there is a statistically meaningful difference between situational anxiety point and continuance anxiety point averages and before concert anxiety points are higher (t=-2.56, P< 0.010; t=-2.84, P< 0.004). When before and after music concert stress overcoming points are compared, it is found that there is a statistically meaningful difference between “Desperate Approach”, “Optimistic Approach” and “Social Support Seeking Approach” sub-scale point averages in before and after music concert and before concert Desperate Approach and Social Support Seeking Approach sub-scale point is higher than after music concert point. Also Optimistic Approach subscale point is higher in music concert. According to research result; listening to music decreased students’ depression points, situational and continuance anxiety points in terms of psychology. In overcoming stress, it is determined that it helps them to improve a manner which they can solve their problems on their own and a more optimist approach.
