THE USE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY IN THE ART WORLD: NANOART AND NANO SCULPTURE

Öz

Thanks to numerous developments in the 21st century, advancements have been made in many fields of science and technology, and these developments have created a revolutionary impact in many areas, including art. One of the prominent revolutions is nanotechnology, a technology that involves working with structures and systems at the nanometer scale, and its use is increasingly widespread. This technology has enabled the creation of complex and delicate forms that were previously impossible in the art world, and as a result of collaboration between artists and scientists, new works have been produced by taking advantage of the possibilities offered by this technology. With the emergence of artists who have expertise in or collaboration with nanotechnology, a new artistic approach called “nano art” has emerged, and another approach defined as “nano sculpture” has also been introduced to the art world under the umbrella of nano art. The purpose of this article is to examine the relationship between nanotechnology science and art, identify its applications in art, deeply explore the concepts of nano art and nano sculpture, and correctly classify them. Additionally, it aims to reveal how this technology contributes to the artistic works by expanding artists’ imaginations and expressive abilities.

NANOTEKNOLOJİNİN SANAT DÜNYASINDA KULLANIMI: NANOSANAT VE NANOHEYKEL

Öz

21. yüzyılda yaşanan sayısız gelişme sayesinde bilim ve teknolojinin birçok dalında ilerleme yaşanmış ve bu gelişmeler sanat dâhil olmak üzere çoğu alanda devrim etkisi yaratmıştır. Bu devrimlerden biri olarak öne çıkan nanoteknoloji, nanometre ölçeğindeki yapılarla ve sistemlerle çalışmayı içeren gittikçe kullanımı yaygınlaşan bir teknolojidir. Bu teknoloji sanat dünyasında daha önce yapılması mümkün olmayan karmaşık ve ince formların yaratılmasına olanak tanımış ve sanatçıların bilim adamları ile iş birliği yapması sonucunda bu teknolojinin imkânlarından faydalanarak yeni eserler üretmelerinin önünü açmıştır. Nanoteknoloji uzmanlığı ya da iş birliği bulunan sanatçıların bu alana hâkim olmaya başlamasıyla birlikte “nano sanat” adı altında yeni bir sanatsal yaklaşım ortaya çıkmış ve bu teknoloji sayesinde nano sanat bünyesinde “nano heykel” olarak tanımlanan bir başka yaklaşım da sanat dünyasına kazandırılmıştır. Bu makalenin amacı; nanoteknoloji biliminin sanatla ilişkisini ele almak, sanatta kullanım alanlarını tespit etmek, nano sanat ve nano heykel kavramlarını derinden incelemek ve bunları doğru bir şekilde sınıflandırmaktır. Ek olarak, bu teknolojinin sanatçıların hayal güçlerini ve ifade becerilerini genişleterek sanatsal çalışmalarına nasıl katkıda bulunduğunu ortaya koymaktır.
