The Relationship between Ethical Climate and Procedural Justice: Evidence Based on Hospital Employees
Abstract
The Ethical climate, which has an impact on employee attitudes in business life, has been seen as an important organizational work climate for decades. When hospital employees perceive how organizations handle ethical issues and approve of what organizations do, they feel higher levels of justice perceptions. Although ethical climate plays an important role in shaping procedural justice, little is known about whether ethical climate is related to procedural justice. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between ethical climate and procedural justice using empirical findings from hospital employees. In this cross-sectional study, 248 hospital employees were selected using convenience sampling method. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess hospital employees' perceptions of procedural justice and ethical climate. The results showed that there is a strong positive and significant relationship between ethical climate and procedural justice. On the other hand, the regression model revealed that ethical climate explained 71.5% of the variance in procedural justice. Moreover, the average level of ethical climate and procedural justice among hospital employees is moderate. It is important to create an appropriate ethical climate in hospitals to increase hospital employees' perceptions of procedural justice.
