The Assessing of Thoughts of Prospective Science Teachers about Teaching Profession

Öz

The purpose of this work is to reveal the thoughts of prospective teachers in science
about what kind of teacher they want to become by examining their teaching style and the
environment of teaching. Carried out in the 2005–2006 teaching year, the object of work

has been composed of two components, the students of Marmara University who have been
chosen as the environment of the study and 203 prospective teachers in Science as sample
data finding places, 104 of whom have been randomly chosen among the 1st year study
students and the others among the 4th year-study. The data sources of the work involve
pictures and essays produced by the prospective teachers and a content analysis has been
practices on the data provided by these pictures and essays. As a result of the data traced from
this analysis, it has been explored that most of the 4th year students stress the importance
of being a hearty teacher, of employing the constructivist methods in teaching and the
necessity of the active participation of students in lectures. On the other hand, according to
analysis the first year students seem to believe that teachers are to use traditional methods in
teaching and become authoritarian in the relations with students when necessary.

FEN BİLGİSİ ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ ÖĞRETMENLİK MESLEĞİ İLE İLGİLİ DÜŞÜNCELERİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Öz

Çalışmada, fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının ders işleyiş, anlatış tarzları ile sınıftaki durumları ve ders ortamları göz önünde bulundurularak nasıl bir öğretmen olacaklarınadair düşüncelerinin ne olduğunu tespit etmek hedeflenmiştir. 2005–2006 öğretim yılı bahar döneminde gerçekleştirilen çalışmanın evrenini Marmara Üniversitesi Atatürk EğitimFakültesi öğrencileri, örneklemini ise Aynı fakültenin İlköğretim Bölümü Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı’na devam eden 104 birinci sınıf ve 99 dördüncü sınıf olmaküzere toplam 203 fen bilgisi öğretmen adayı oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın veri kaynaklarını öğretmen adaylarının yaptıkları kompozisyonlar ve resimler oluşturmuştur. Elde edilenverilere kodlamalar yardımıyla içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Bu analiz sonucunda 4.sınıf öğrencilerinin büyük çoğunluğu 1.sınıf öğrencilerinin aksine öğretmenin öğrencilerleilişkilerinde samimi olması, derslere öğrencilerin aktif katılması gerektiğini ve derslerini sınıf ortamında yapacaklarını düşündükleri ayrıca yapısalcı yaklaşım metotlarını uygulamak istedikleri ortaya çıkarılmıştır.
