Geomorphologic Features of Çölovası Polje (Dinar/AFYON)
Öz
In Turkey, comprehensive studies about karst
geomorphology are being carried out recently. In our country situates on the
Alpine-Himalayan fold system and there are very large limestones of almost
every geologic era. Again, in this area have tectonic factors and appropriate
processes. So, karst studies are very huge in this belt. In this study, it was
aimed to reveal the geomorphological properties and geomorphological development of polje by
using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The study addressed the
anthropogenic effects, natural and human environmental problems and the findings
of land use in the polje. The polje bottom is completely flat and is a suitable
area for agricultural activities. Each
passing day the fall of the groundwater level is a major problem and deeper
drilling is taking place. Many hums, dipsticks, drainage system and tectonic
indications and polje evidences are presented. Polje is a large scale base
level (taban seviyesi) type of polje in the classification. Formation was
started in the Miocene period and formed in the end of the Pliocene period. The
ultimate state is won in Quaternary. As there are many poljes in the western Taurus,
there are problems here such as watering (pondering), inadequacy of the drops
(sinkhols).
