Although the relationship of illegitimate tasks (ILT) concept’s with different variables has been examined, there is no study on how the occupational prestige perception (POP) and leader-member exchange affect this relationship. This study was conducted in order to examine the quality and moderating effect of LMX in the relationship between unnecessary tasks (ILUN) and unreasonable tasks (ILUR), which are two dimensions of ILT. A linear regression analysis was performed in SPSS with the data collected in Turkish public schools through a questionnaire. Among the findings of the study, the negative effect of ILUN and ILUR on POP was explored, and it was found that LML (Leader-Member Loyalty) ILUN and ILUR separately mitigated the negative effect on POP. In addition, it has been explored that male teachers have higher perceptions of ILUN and ILUR. It points out that the current study will make important theoretical contributions to ILT and general job design literature in terms of the effectiveness of loyalty between leader and member (LML), which is one of the LMX dimensions related to the occupational prestige perception based on ILT.
