Öz

Radical increases in the general price level especially due to the oil crisis in 1970s showed the deficiencies in financial statements with historical cost and these statements have been criticized for not providing true and realistic information for the users. There is a general consensus about the fact that financial statements with historical cost are not successful is reflecting the reality and that this inability may be solved by using inflation-adjusted financial statements. Nevertheless this theoretical judgment could not be approved - even only in stock markets- by empirical studies on participants of stock markets and prices of stocks. In this context, the aim of our study is to discuss and evaluate for Turkey, the findings obtained from academical accounting studies comparing the effects of the financial statements based on historical cost on the stock prices with the effects of the inflation-adjusted financial statements in the USA and UK stock markets.
