DETERMINING BORON CONTENT OF PASTURE AND MEADOW SOILS AND ITS CORRELATIONS WITH SOME SOIL CHARACTERISTICS IN KIRIKHAN-REYHANLI REGION OF HATAY

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to determine the boron content of soils of pasture and meadow and its correlations with some soil characteristics in Kırıkhan-Reyhanlı region of Hatay. In this respect, totally 80 soil samples representing the pasture and meadow soil have been collected from two different depths (0-20 and 20-40 cm) and from 40 different points. In these soils was performed to determine the contents of available boron, soil organic matter content (SOM), lime content, total salt, pH and soil texture. As a results, it has been determined that soils have from 6.85 to 8.16 pH content, from  0.01 to 0.21 % total salt content, from  4.60 to 65.30 % lime content, from 8.70 to 85.40 % sand content, from  8.00 to 58.00 % silt content, from 3.40 to 53.95 % lime content, from 0.29 to 5.52 % organic matter content and 0.00-1.31 ppm available boron content. With respect to the boron content of pasture and meadow soil, it has been found out that at the depth of 0-20 cm 70% of soil contains quite a little boron,   27.5% of it has little and 2.50% of it has sufficient amount of boron, whereas at the depth of 20-40 cm 72.50% of soil has quite a little, 17.50% of it has little and 10% of soil has sufficient amount of boron. It has been determined that there is a negative substantial correlation between boron and sand contents, whereas a positive one between boron and salt, lime, silt and clay. It has been observed that there is a negative correlation between salt and sand contents while there is a positive correlation between clay, silt, lime and organic matter contents. It has been determined that there is a negative correlation between pH content and organic matter content of soil, and another negative correlation between lime, silt, clay and organic matter whereas there is a positive substantial correlation between silt, lime and organic matter content.
