Konut Mutfak Mekânındaki Değişiklikler: Kuzey Kıbrıs'taki Çağdaş Konut Komplekslerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Mutfak, iç tasarımda önemli bir rol oynar ve mutfakların donanım düzenlemeleri hem işlevselliği hem de estetiği artırır. Kuzey Kıbrıs'ta mutfaklar farkedilir bir evrim geçirmiştir. Önceleri genellikle yemek pişirmek amaçlı kullanılan mutfaklar, şimdi yaşam tarzındaki değişiklikleri yansıtarak çeşitli işlevler sunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, ev içi mutfakların zamanla nasıl dönüştüğünü, tasarımlarını, kullanım amaçlarını ve evin diğer alanlarıyla ilişkilerini incelemektedir. Araştırmanın amacı, bu değişikliklere uyum sağlayan yeni tasarım çözümlerini belirlemektir. Çalışmanın yöntemi, literatür çalışmasının ardından 2015-2023 yılları arasında inşa edilen ve Kuzey Kıbrıs'ın dört büyük şehrinden belirlenmiş apartman türü konutlar üzerinde yapılan vaka çalışmasını ve ilişkili mülakatları içermektedir. Çalışmadaki bulgular, mutfakların ev tasarımında merkezi bir rol oynamaya devam ettiğini ve artık yemek pişirmenin ötesinde çok farklı aktiviteleri desteklemek için mutfak tasarımında esnekliğe olan ihtiyacın arttığını göstermektedir. Bu sonuç, çağdaş mutfakların çok işlevli olmaları gerekliliğini göstermekte ve bu duruma uyum sağlayan yenilikçi tasarımların önemine vurgu yapmaktadır.

The Changes of Domestic Kitchen Space: Examining in Contemporary Housing Complexes in Northern Cyprus

Abstract

The kitchen plays a crucial role in interior design, where thoughtful fixture arrangement enhances functionality and aesthetics. In Northern Cyprus, kitchens have seen significant evolution. Once used exclusively for cooking, they now serve various functions, reflecting shifts in lifestyle. This study explores the transformation of domestic kitchens over time, focusing on their design, usage, and integration with other areas of the house. It aims to identify new design solutions that accommodate these changes. The methodology included a literature review and a case study of apartments built between 2015-2023, with interviews conducted in four major cities across Northern Cyprus. The findings show that kitchens remain central to house design, with a growing need for flexibility to support a variety of activities beyond cooking. This underscores the importance of innovative designs that adapt to the multifunctional nature of contemporary kitchens.

The present study was produced from the master’s thesis titled “Investigating the Changes of Domestic Kitchen Design: Cases of Contemporary Apartment Complexes in Northern Cyprus”, Institute of Graduate School of Cyprus International University, Interior Design Department of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture Faculty. The article complies with national and international research and publication ethics. Ethics committee approval was not required for the study.
