Development of the Landscape Elements Inventory System (LEIS) for Sakarya University Campus

Abstract

This study aims to digitize the landscape elements in Sakarya University Esentepe Campus and analyze their physical properties using GIS. The attributes of 224 landscape elements such as location, material and damage status were mapped using ArcGIS software and transferred to the digital environment to create the Landscape Elements Inventory System (LEIS). The findings revealed that the landscape elements were concentrated in areas with high user density and there were damaged elements, especially in seating units and garbage bins. The LEIS created is an important tool for the landscape management of campuses and contributes to effective execution of maintenance and implementation of user-oriented improvements. In addition, the use of these information systems will make significant contribution to sustainability by performing timely maintenance and repair of the elements in the landscape design of university campuses. The study presents concrete suggestions that can serve as examples for campuses.
